Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar has received a club-imposed suspension of two matches and a fine of $10,000 for the inappropriate comments he made during the week. Vidmar was asked by a journalist on Thursday whether he was too soft on his players and in turn he gave the following response: 'What would you like me to do, chop their heads off? I can do that, we'll go to Saudi Arabia and we can do that.'

U.S. Rep. John Tanner, chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security, urged the Social Security Administration to continue its focus on reducing the unprecedented backlog in disability claims. The number of Americans awaiting a hearing on their disability claims more than doubled from 2000 to 2008. Some claimants are waiting up to three or four years to have their cases heard, Tanner said in written opening remarks.

Because applicants often have little or no income while awaiting a decision on benefits, the backlog has caused severe hardship to hundreds of thousands of Americans with significant disabilities   -John Tanner

One of the most baffling aspects of this strange season is how quickly the reputation of the Big 12 has dropped. The defining debate of last season was whether the Big 12 or the SEC was the country's premier conference. The debate lasted well into the final quarter of Florida's 24-14 victory over Oklahoma in the national title game.

Texas may have a little more depth, but I would love to see them play   -Dave Christensen

NEW YORK (AP) Let's salute one of the least appreciated conventions of musical theater the entr'acte. That's French, folks, for the mini-overture before the beginning of a show's second act. And the one that pops up after intermission at "Girl Crazy," the 1930 Gershwin musical, is a humdinger indeed.
